How 'Bout Those Red States?

The Democrats care more about the poor? Doesn't look like it. According to the Catalogue for Philanthropy, the average charitable contribution in proportion to income is much higher in states that voted for President Bush:

Mississippi is the poorest state in the country, but they give the 5th most! (They're also bright red.)

Of course, Democrats prefer government welfare programs to private efforts. They resent anything voluntary.
